Helping Hands and Lasting Impact: How the Rice County Community Foundation Supports Children and Families
Rice County, Kansas, is a place where neighbors lend a hand, traditions are treasured, and the next generation is nurtured with care. At the heart of this community-centered spirit is the Rice County Community Foundation (RCCF)—a powerhouse of support for children, families, and residents across the county.
RCCF manages and stewards a wide variety of funds and philanthropic programs, all aimed at improving the quality of life for Rice County residents. Whether it’s through education, emergency assistance, holiday magic, or community celebrations, RCCF plays a vital role in meeting local needs and building a stronger, more connected community.
In addition to its grantmaking and fund management, RCCF also serves as a vital connector—linking families with local resources, services, and opportunities. Whether a family is seeking help during a tough time or looking to get involved in community efforts, RCCF helps them find the right door to knock on. As a hub for community betterment, RCCF brings people, ideas, and solutions together to support meaningful progress countywide.
Holiday Cheer and Emergency Support
Goodfellows of Northern Rice County is a beloved program that ensures families are cared for during the holidays—and beyond. Through RCCF’s support, Goodfellows provides gifts and food during the Christmas season and steps up in times of unexpected need, ensuring no family is left behind.
Similarly, North Pole Fire and Rescue brings warmth and assistance when it's needed most. Focused on holiday giving and emergency support, this program helps families recover from disaster or hardship with compassion and dignity.
Fireworks, Fun, and Family Traditions
If you’ve ever attended Boomfest on the Fourth of July, you know it’s more than just a fireworks show—it’s a full-blown celebration of Rice County pride. Known for arguably the best fireworks display around, Boomfest also features family-friendly activities and events that create cherished memories and bring our community together in joy and unity.
Investing in the Future
The Rice County Early Childhood Coalition is paving the way for stronger early education by supporting childcare professionals and advocating for quality, accessible childcare. Their work is vital not only for families, but also for local businesses and educators who depend on stable childcare solutions.
The Little River Fund, under RCCF’s umbrella, provides both program funding and scholarships for graduating seniors from Little River High School, helping students pursue their dreams and contribute back to their community.
Students in agriculture also benefit from RCCF support through Chase and Lyons FFA funds, which ensure that ag education thrives in our local schools. Beyond these, RCCF offers multiple scholarships that assist students heading to college or trade school, making higher education and skills training more accessible for Rice County youth.
Legacy Gifts and Community Impact
RCCF’s Community Fund, fueled by generous legacy gifts, awards annual grants to nonprofits that serve and strengthen Rice County families. The 2024 grant cycle awarded 40+ projects and the few below showcase the real impact of these funds:
